The West Island Women’s Shelter has been a vital community resource for women and children affected by conjugal violence since its founding in 1979. Initially established as a small garage apartment in response to the growing need for a safe space, the Shelter has evolved into a multifaceted support system for victims of domestic violence. Today, it provides temporary housing, crisis intervention, legal and financial support, and a range of programs to help women and children rebuild their lives. The WIWS’s mission is to eliminate conjugal violence in all its forms, not only by providing a physical safe haven, but also the emotional, legal, and social support to empower those in need.
Amelia has chosen the WIWS because it plays an indispensable role in our community’s response to domestic violence. Over the years, this resource has grown into a reliable and deeply trusted organization. As someone passionate about protecting children’s rights, Amelia is particularly inspired by the Shelter’s innovative programs which help children process and heal from the violence they’ve witnessed. At Spunt Carin, we are proud to support an organization that empowers women and children to reclaim their sense of security and autonomy.
If you’re looking for ways to give back, there are many meaningful ways you can support the West Island Women’s Shelter. Monetary donations are always needed, but you can also support the Shelter by volunteering your time or donating essential goods like clothing, hygiene products, and household items. Together we can support this incredible organization in its mission to support these survivors and end domestic violence.
