For February 2026 “SC Gives Back” Jean day, our paralegal, Fred-Joseph, chose to highlight the Bureau de la communauté haïtienne de Montréal (BCHM), a non-profit community resource center that works with families, particularly those from ethnocultural communities, to help them develop their networks and equip them to participate in community life.

About the BCHM

The BCHM is an organization that has been serving the community since the 1970s and, while rooted in the Haitian community, its doors are open to people of all backgrounds, providing a wide range of services designed to foster social integration and family well-being.

BCHM addresses the multifaceted challenges faced by newcomers and the organization acts as a vital support system, helping individuals navigate their new lives in Quebec.

Supporting families and social integration

The work done by BCHM provides essential stability for newcomers. Their primary areas of impact include:

  • Family Support: Offering specialized programs for parents and children to ensure healthy development and strong family bonds. Option Protection is one such program that collaborates with the Director of Youth Protection to help at-risk families.
  • Youth Success: Providing academic support, mentoring, and recreational activities to help young people integrate and succeed in their new environment.
  • Integration Services: Assisting newcomers with administrative procedures, language barriers, and the search for employment and housing.

By focusing on prevention and education, BCHM empowers individuals to overcome systemic barriers. They ensure that families have the tools they need to build a bright future in Montreal.

Why this cause matters to us

As a family law firm, we know that the transition to a new country or the struggle against social isolation can place immense pressure on the family unit. We recognize that legal solutions are only one part of a family’s success; they also need a strong community network and social resources. BCHM shares our dedication to protecting the vulnerable and ensuring that every family, regardless of their origin, has the opportunity to thrive
