On Friday, October 27th the Spunt & Carin team fundraised for the ALS Society of Canada. In exchange for donating as part of our Spunt & Carin Gives Back our team members wore jeans to work. Sara chose the ALS society of Canada; they chose this charity as it was close to their heart. When one of our team members choses a charity they present on the charity to the rest of the us. The Spunt & Carin Gives Back program allows us to educate our team on various causes while having a positive impact on our community.  During their presentation our team member shared that Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a disease which affects the body. ALS is a “fatal type of disease that affects the spinal cord and the brain, it affects the control of the muscles and overtime affects the affected person’s ability to speak, breathe and eat.”[1] Sara informed us that 200,000 people suffer from ALS worldwide and there are currently 3,000 people in Canada living with ALS.

Donating to charities like the ALS society of Canada can help improve the quality of life of those living with ALS. Charities like the ALS society of Canada help fund research to improve technology, slow down the progression of the disease and search for a cure for ALS. The ALS society of Canada also mentions that any contributions to the ALS society of Canada also help advocate for policy change that will aim to improve the lives of those living with ALS. The Spunt & Carin team left with a better understanding of how their donations will improve the lives of the those living with ALS!
